We are leaving in the early morning with a 16,5 m lorry to get Carina transported from Kerimaki to Loviisa, a total roundtrip of some 750 kms. Arrival at Kerimaki where we meet the seller and the crane, which will lift her onboard the trailer. The lifting goes very smoothly and after some 20 minutes she is secured and fastened with several lashings, and the trip can continue southbound.
At 1700 hrs we arrive at Loviisa where the lift-off starts. It was actually a reversal of the loading, only now the lifting equipment is much heavier, and slight difficulties occur when trying to get the vessel out from the trailer. All ends up well, and she is put on place without any damage during transport.

At 1000 hrs we start building the winterhouse around her. It was from the beginning clear, that we needed to build an enough large hall around her so that we would be able to work on her during the winterseason. Finally, after some 5 hours work, a cover measuring 3 x 8 meters, and some 3 meters height was finished. Now she will rest secure through the winter!

Rainy weather, +2 degrees centigrade, very high humidity! But under the shed it is dry, so I start removing varnish from the side plankings. My best friend seems to be the electric heat-blower and a standard scraper.

Still raining, today a very windy day. I start replacing some parts of the wall of the shed, so that they won't blow away! Then the work continues, now scraping the other side. Soon all varnish will be gone!

Today's task will be starting to remove paint from below the waterline. It seems to stick there much harder as the varnish above the waterline, and I find my eccentric sander to be a good tool. Sadly, after some 5 hours working, the machine tilts. It just works like a rotating sander, which is dangerous to use! Later in the evening I brake the sander in pieces and find a bearing totally clugged with dust. Cleaning it up and adding some oil makes wonders, it works again!

Total chaos at the dock! A heavy winterstorm blew over Finland 27-28.12. with wind speeds up to 21 m/s. The covering over Carina is partly collapsed, and the whole housing has moved 1 meter backwards and 1 meter to the side, leaving the port side wall now scrubbing against the hull. I decided to remove the canopy from the roof, and simply wrap it around the hull without any framework. Have to rebuild it later. This is the fun part of owning a wooden boat, feelings are quite destructive at the moment!

Down at the dock with some more planking & tools + a friend in order to rebuild the shed around the boat! Started with lowering the whole construction with some 40 cm, then nailing more planking on the sides between every leg so that the construction would be harder. Then lifting the roof back on its place and securing it! 3 hours later, and now I hope it will stand up until spring through the next winter storms which inevitabely will come, sooner or later!

Paying a visit to the dock. Everything ok, though we have got some snow during the past weeks, so there is approx 20 cm, and the first thing to do is to get it off the roof over Carina. Temperature today -3 C, perfect weather for working! Today's task is some sanding, so I start with the inner sides of the cockpit. It is built in mahogany, and have become mostly grey in colour during the past years of neglect...3 hours later, and some 10 sheets of sandpaper shorter, I have a nice looking cockpit from the inside, ready to get some varnish as soon as the weather & temperature are ok for varnishing. Meanwhile at home, the continious work on my rudder goes on. Noted, that the wood is partly bad/rotten in the upper end of the rudder, where the steering pin is attached. This has been caused by the two sheets of mahogany which were screwed and fastened on each side of the rudder, thus making the fastening point for the steering pin. Water and moisture had found its way beneath the mahogany fittings and the rudder itself (oak) and the only thing to do is to cut out the damaged part and make a new one! Also the rudder blade that is built of two halfs, was gone apart, so after finishing the both halfs, some epoxy-glue and a good number of clamps made it possible to fix the pieces together again. So far the time schedule looks good, now just waiting for next saturday, so that I can continue with the hull....

been lazy filling in the site. Spring is on its way,
and so is also a lot of thing already done. The
new stern as seen on the frontpage is mounted,
the hull is scraped and sande on the outside down
tho the wood, and the linseedoil just sucks in to it!
Quite a lot of carpentry still to be done.
